Joint savings account advice please...

Can anyone recommend a good joint savings account for myself and my gf?

At the moment we can only afford to put in a couple of hundred pounds per month and would like to make withdrawals every few months. Ideally we would both like a card and an online area we can both log into independently to view transactions etc.

Interest is important but I would happily opt for a lesser interest rate for a more accessible / quality account with good customer service etc

Any ideas?

I'm new to saving (debt ) so I was wondering if somebody can clear a few things up for me...

I bank with First Direct, do they sort the tax out with my savings or will I now have to start doing a self assessment for each year??

Will we have to sort the tax out on a joint account then or will this be done already? We both fit into 20p tax bracket...??

savings are automatically taxed at 20% (unless they are in an ISA) so as long as you are both standard rate payers you need do nothing.

do consider opening ISAs as these are tax free... you can't open a joint account for those however.
