Where to invest £15k?

Hi
My husband would like to invest approx £15k for his 2 children from his 1st marriage.

They are 12 & 14 years old and the plan would be to use this money for their 1st cars/uni, or whatever they choose when they are 18.

Any advice on what the best options are?

We do not want their mother knowing about this - does this mean we couldn't put the money in their names?
