BT phone line migration fees

Hello
We have had to move in the last year and BT have charged us c.£60 because we moved before our 12 mths minimium term on Option 1 was up. Even though we took the entire BT package (Incl Broadband) with us.

The Customer Services operator I spoke to said this is in the paper work that I would have been sent. Should these fees be in bold type and shouldn't the customer be told that they are subject to the fee when we phone to say we're moving?

We are moving again in 2 weeks and I spoke to a BT operative the other day and it wasn't mentioned once.
Is there any way to avoid this?
Thanks

My daughter did the same thing and as far as I know did not get charged anything BUT they did start a new 12 month contract.
  • Bt should not have charged you at all - unless you were moving to an address that had no existing BT connection, was it a new house or a new connection?
Hoever having said that they usually mahe you sign a new cintract for another 12 months

If you cancel your contract before the minimum term is up you will incur an early termination charge. This charge will be based on the outstanding minimum period of your 12 or 18 month,s contract.

If you continue the service at your new address you will be subject to a new minimum period from the date they provide service at your new address.

If there's a working BT line in the new property connection should be free of charge, but if the line needs to be reconnected to BT or a new line is required, a connection charge will apply.

    Hi All

Thanks for your responses. We have signed up for a new 12 mth contract and each property had a phone line when we moved. I think I'll phone BT again....
