not sure what you are trying to do but if you are trying to record from vinyl then this might help: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/FromVinyltoComputer_StepByStep.aspx"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. If there is, then https://www.maplin.co.uk will do it
You can definitely get phono-microphone leads (which go in the mic socket)- I have one.0 -
Maplin do an amplifier phono-USB for £80:

Or, a phono-mic adaptor for £2.13

Hi thanks for your replies. Im not sure if phono is the correct leads. I have a mic and earpiece which connects into the Red ans yellow sockets to use with voip, yet the red (mic lead) doesnt seem to work when it is pushed all the way in, it need to be pulled out a little-but obviously i cant hold it and i need a reliable connection- so i want to plug these red and yellow cables into an adaptor-(usb)0

I see. If you look at the second of the links in my last post, then the larger two plugs you can see are phono. These are about 1/4" round and used mostly by audio separates systems and DVD players/older TVs and Playstations. If the plugs you are refering too are simply the microphone/earphone jacks you use for the PC sound card then I don't know what to refer to these astoaster2 wrote:Hi thanks for your replies. but I think the best option would be a new sound card if the sockets in yours aren't working - is it a laptop or desktop? 0 -
its a laptop, so not that easy to install.

I see the problem.
There is a USB soundcard here for £25:

But, it looks quite bulky and I presume you were imagining something much more compact.
You can buy small ones like this on eBay but they don't look very good quality:

Have you tried taking it to a PC repair shop and asking how much it would be to repair?
I fear it would be a frightful amount though _pale_0 -
