Goods out of date or not?

I purchased a printer cartridge in September 2005. The ebay description did not mention whether the cartridge was in date or not. I should have asked!!

When I received it, on the back of the cartridge it said "install before September 2005"
To me that means its out of date as you need to install before end August 2005. I contacted the seller who says its in date!!

Am I right or is the seller right?

Thanks.

Have you tried installing it? If it works he is right, if it doesn't you are right.
  • - Why are you quibbling about this?
    - If it works there is no problem is there!

The dates manufacturers put on these items are just guesswork, (it's not like it's a biological product where bacteria are multiplying at a known rate and the levels of toxicity become more worrying as time goes on...)

The problem with printer ink could be that it dries up, but there will not be much change from August to September... Just shake up the cartridge before you put it in your printer.

Imo, if the seller did not specify a date in the description then it was up to you to ask, as you said yourself.

Most cartridges will work well past their dates though so it will more than likely be fine.

Use as a learning curve for next cartridge purchase perhaps? :)

Technically, you are right about it being out of date, but as it is a matter of days and these sorts of item are dated years ahead of their manufacture, I don't think you can seriously persue to matter.
