REcorded delivery not received, how long to wait?

Item sent to me last Friday by recorded still not received. How long should I wait? Should the seller give me the tracking number so I can see where it has gone?
Also how long should it take to appear on the RM tracking site?

Any help gratefully received!

Get the tracking number from the seller , then check it out on the RM site

As a seller, I always give the tracking number as a matter of course in my email confirming dispatch. (assuming the postal service used provided a tracking number)

I'm sure any genuine seller would have no reason to withhold that tracking number from a buyer on request.

Royal Mail require 15 working days to expire after the due date of delivery before they will entertain any claim for loss (which in part allows for the item to be stored at a local delivery office for 7 days to allow collection by the intended recipient where delivery could not be made, and then return the item to the sender in the event of no delivery/collection).

Note: Recorded delivery tracking code only confirms that delivery has been made. Unlike Special Delivery, Recorded Delivery does not tell you where the item is prior to delivery.

    Hi

According to Royal Mail's site recorded delivery can be first or second class. They aim to deliver 1st class recorded within 1 working day or second class recorded within 3 working days.

When I asked about 2nd class recorded in my work postroom, I was told there was no such thing  not sure if it'll be the same answer in a proper post office

You might need new post room staff

Recorded is just standard mail, it is nothing special so it can be sent 1st or second class. What makes it recorded is that for an additional 72p a signature (any signature) should be obtained when the item is handed over at its destination.

Recorded is carried along side all the other normal post so takes exactly the same legth of time as any other mail.

It might also be worth phoning your local sorting office to see if they have any packets waiting for you to collect. I've found that sometimes a card doesn't get put through my door saying they are holding an item but there is a packet waiting for me at the sorting office.

I have foun over the last couple of months that items i have sent recorded either 1st or 2nd aren't getting updtaed on the RM website at all!! This invariably results in me having to contact RM to enquire. I have also experienced RM not leaving the card through the door and just taking the parcel back to sorting office.
