Blank screen on start up

Just recently my pc is taking ages to start up. The screen you get which tells you your bios info takes about 4 mins to appear. Before that it seams my pc is doing nothing, and all i get is a blank screen. Any idea whats up with it?

Only single thing i can think of is the power switch is sticking down and slowly releasing itself, problem is i can't remeber ever having the patience to wait four minutes for a boot.
If you smoke and have the machine on top of desk or if u have a "real" fire in room its amazing how much tar these machines collect inside
Disconnect the reset switch at mainboard end and if u can the power one also activating the power by bridging the two jumper pins with the end of a screwdriver, be careful tho

    4 mins to bios screen?

Does the PC work normally from the bios and loads windows ok? then does the PC behave normally? or are you stuck at a blank screen?

Does the PC make any beeping noises?

When you push the power on switch do fans in the PC come on? if it does it isnt the power switch i guess.

I wonder if it's doing a deep memory test? Although normally the BIOS screen is displayed first... Try going into the BIOS/Setup menu and seeing if it has a fast boot option.

Is power actually getting to the components during that 4 minutes? Try opening the CD drive - if it won't open, it's likely no power is being output from the PSU to the mainboard until your 4 minutes.

Power is getting there as the cd rom draw opens.

Try unplugging the CD rom internally. If that doesn't work, try reseating the ram. Then disconnect the hard disk. In other words, one by one go through removing the components, to see if they are the cause.
    How do you reset ram?

You just remove the Ram by unclipping the white clips that hold it in place then push it back in again. Its more likely that this is some kind of hard disk/ cdrom type problem but its worth getting rid of dust and making sure all the connections are in place. Reseating expansion cards is something else you should also do, with luck this solves the issue if not it gets more complicated.

Do you get a black screen with a curser flashing up the top left hand corner?
