Website building

Hey all, can people advise with tips for building my own website for international trading. Im going through the Microsoft route and using template to get started but was wondering if people can help with ideas on layout, style, things to include, metatags, eyecatching / attention grabbers, how to internet guides etc etc

All advise is much appreciated

Thanks

To be fair mate, if you're making a website for international trading, consider paying the money out and getting a decent pro to do the work. After all, if you were buying a shop, you wouldn't build it and decorate it yourself would you? It'd look horrific. (Unless you're a builder/decorating in which case my example fails).

But seriously, if you're working from scratch with no background and you want to trade internationally, I wouldn't entertain making your own site unless you're either, young and tech minded with a lot of spare time, or stupid.

You are going to need to use a shopping cart script, to design it yourself you will need to know about 4 programming languages.

You will also need a web host, a domain and if you care about your users security you will need a dedicated IP address and SSL certificate, you need the IP so that the SSL will work. SSl is the little padlock you see ;)

    Good luck.

Why scare people with talk of designing shopping carts?

Romancart (along with quite a few others) handles the shopping basket for you.
And there is a free version that will get you started.
It links in with all the major UK (and World) banking credit card handlers who will handle the credit card details and security for a price.

I assume you have merchant banking facilites set up with your business account bank (to handle credit card payments).

Also, Paypal will work as a third party to accept Paypal for a cut of the payment.

A survey I seen today said that 80% of internet users have used EBay.
A fair percentage of them will therefore already have Paypal accounts which can be used on any website which accepts Paypal payments.

eww that's ugly. I hope you've not paid for his services, that kind of design shouldn't be allowed online anymore

    huh?

No i ment that he would be better of using a script and not to design it himself unless he knows at least 4 programming languages.

If it's for a professional site, then I'd invest in a professional designer.

If you are testing the waters and really know what you are doing, go for it, I'd suggest looking at Google Checkout, can be easily added to sites.

Blimey, that site is bad. Wouldn't want to pay for a site like that, in fact I wouldn't even take payment for a site like that.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
