Potato blight????
Comments
-
i grew potatoes this year and they started to show signs of what i came to know as blight. It started with the bottom foliage going yellow and i did get some blotching eventually......
I sought advice and was told the best thing i could do was cut off the shams (foliage down to the bottom of the stalks) and hope that the blight hasn't got down to the tubers....if it rained that was a bonus as it would wash the fungus away....
I was also told to be very careful with the foliage and to clear it all away from the plot... honestly there is no mistaking a potato with blight....its disgusting....
I am gonna be very careful and buy resistant varieties next season...Every Penny's a prisoner :T0 -
Once blight gets going and if you haven't noticed it for a week, your whole plant will be rotting.
As evie says, cut the haulms right down, leave for a couple of weeks before digging up. It would probably help to keep the rain out of the bag for the 2 weeks if you can.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I grew spuds in bags and noticed that the stems rotted away quickly, but thought that was the foliage naturally dying away. The spuds themselves tasted fantastic.
So if your leaves suddenly rot is that always blight?
If so, what's the natural process? Would that have to mean the leaves going green, yellow, brown? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
