Reid Furniture - AAaaaaaarrrgghhh!!!

Options
Will try and keep this short, but boy is the full story a long one!

Last Summer I bought a suede sofa to match some other furniture I already had. I was put under great pressure by the salesman to order 'now' so as to guarantee delivery by Christmas. I wanted it for Christmas, so I ordered 'now'. And they insist on payment in full at time of order (darn them).

They advised me of a delivery date at the beginning of December, but didn't turn up on the day. Over the next few weeks I made dozens of calls and was given various 'lines', amongst them that my sofa was 'lost' and that there was a dispute between Reid and their carrier company and so the carrier company were doing this deliberately to cause trouble.

With no sign of the sofa, with two days to spare I had to rearrange my plans for Christmas so that my visiting family didn't have to sit on the floor. I went to them instead (every cloud has a silver lining ;) ).

The debate went on with Reid well into the new year. They never returned my calls and sent me completely dismissive letters. My favourite bit was when the Customer Service Department told me that they were an after sales service, so couldn't talk to me further until my furniture had been delivered. The chance would have been a fine thing!!!!

Out of the blue the sofa turned up in February. When carrying it in to my living room the delivery drivers managed to gouge huge chunks (I exaggerate not) out of my walls and woodwork. This was noted on the delivery note.

I have continued to try to claim compensation from Reid, who have made various empty promises, and now just ignore my letters. I've escalated it as far as the Operations Director but he is just as dismissive as the rest of them, at one point telling me that he considered my order cancelled (er, with my money sitting in his bank account)!

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I am at a loss as to what more I can do, but ultimately believe I was entitled to better service and respect than I got. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks everso. Phew, I almost feel better for that.

Hi, although the goods were late you accepted them, so i dont think any form of redress will be due there.

However, I would get some quotations for the damage to your property along with the photo of the damage to the sofa. ask them to re-imburse you within a reasonable time frame. should you get no joy, put it through small claims.

    good luck!
