If there is an announcement by Barratts then it shouldn't be about a material change in their financial position as they only announced their results a week ago.

Yes and Bradford and Bingley said they were in a sound financial position and would not require any additional funding a few weeks before announcing a £300m rights issue.

According to The Times the other day, this would have been enough to trigger an SEC investigation and posssibly a prosecution had the company been US listed. It still may do so as they issue something called ADRs (American Depository Receipts) that allows their shares to be listed on the US exchanges and for US investors to buy their shares which makes them covered by US law.

"Given the level of reserved and contracted sales, we expect net debt at the end of June to be approximately £1.7bn."

Me thinks they need Martins help......

They should get on the DFW board. The sky telly and second car will both have to go as will those expensive take-aways on a Friday evening.

Noooooo - not the Sky telly. How about they drop from the multiroom and save a tenner a month?

I'm always amazed at the amount of people supposedly 'against the wall' in financial terms who insist that they can't drop the Sky box or curtail their unsustainable standard of living in any way. They seem to expect that there's some sort of financial secret that they just need to be in on, in order to make everything all right. :D

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

OH and I are lucky, we aren't against the financial wall.

But we spend a lot less on many things than people spend on "essentials" on the DFW board. We don't eat take-aways, ever. Why spend lots on nastier food? We don't have Sky, TV is too often just mental chewing gum, and if we do want to watch something, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are fine. We don't have plasma TVs, surround-sound, any expensive electronics (apart from computers, which we need for work stuff anyway), and we don't have any £1,500 sofas.

We do spend money on going away quite a lot. We went to Israel for a week in November, and again at the end of March. We are going surfing in Cornwall for a few days with mates, and to the Isles of Scilly in September. But this is discretionary spending, how we choose to spend money we have left over AFTER essentials, savings, etc. We don't kid ourselves this is "necessary" in any way!

Speaking of which, can you spot the Barratt mistake with this house?

(I found this originally on a thread at the hpc forums)

How on earth are you going to drive into your garage? Over your beautiful lawn?

    Silly.
