sounds like the cot has had enough.

my son was 1 and a half, with bed barriers and a folded up double duvet on the floor just in case, explained it was a big boy bed, he thought it was fun considering he hated, i mean really hated his cot.

I am so glad it isn't just me!!!

I put my son in a cot at 4 months old ... she screamed and screamed all night long I left him for so long (as advised by the health visitor) yet he continued to scream ... i tried settling him in my arms before moving him into the cot and as soon as he was in that cot he would wake up and scream :( ... after 3 months of no sleep I gave up and put him in a bed, I split up the bunk beds, removed the ladder from one side but left all the sides on, then pushed the side with removed ladder against the wall ... he was 7 months old when he went in a bed all because he hated his cot and I needed sleep. Not ideal but it worked.

Agree with pushing the cot against the wall where the pole is missing, although if you can afford a new cot have a look at ikea, they do a lovely cot bed which we have for our daughter (almost 1) just one side removes to make it into a bed which I think is great! (yes I have more luck with my daughter in a cot ... I think she will be a nightmare to get in a bed!)

18 months for us with both ours but it was a cot bed. With our daughter we got her a full size bed when she was just over 2 as she kept banging against the wooden bars stopped her falling our of bed. No problems moving to the full size bed. Our son on the other hand, was doing the same thing so we did the same and he wouldnt even go to sleep in the big bed and after a few hours we had no option but to reassemble the cot bed again. He is 3 in Oct and it wont be long before he needs to get used to the big bed as those cot beds just arent big enough when they get bigger even if they are supposed to be until they are 5 and in some cases 6.

"she is a born wriggler when asleep, and usually ends up pressed right up against the side - so am thinking that without the side there, she will simply fall out!!"

Our daughter was the same - she tucked her arm under the sheet and pulled herself to one side of the cot. She doesn't do this now, but she also has a pillow and this is probably more comfortable for her.

Took her to bed at 7pm last night, left her alone at 7.15pm, silence and she fell asleep, she woke up at 6am and asked when the light would 'wake up'!

The light is actually a dragon, so she has already learnt that when the light is off dragon is asleep so she must be quiet. When it came on she told us dragon was awake!

So the light tip is recommended for anyone who is struggling to get toddlers to stay in bed.

    Hi,
both my DSs went into their big beds at just over a year old as they were escapologists. The bed that we purchased had an underneath guest bed, we pulled that out so that if they fell out they had a soft landing. Also doubled up for when my folks came to stay.

DS 1 did not fall out at all, and DS 2 only fell out the once. Now one has a high sleeper and the other has a mid sleeper.

am so tempted to get one of those little character beds - cant remember what the girls one is but the boys one is the racing car? i really wanted to get one for DD1, but controlling ex wouldnt allow it (paid for with my money!) so think i may save up for it - or have a look on ebay!

in the short term, i have turned the cot around, as i was worried that she would pull out the bar next to the one that is lose and excape!!

    thanks for all your advice!
