Previous Landlord Refs when Renting via Fully Managed LA

Hi,
Just a quick one, when applying for a new rental property, who provides the references if the house you're moving to is fully managed through the letting agency ie landlord (even if no direct communications with them over the tenancy) or the letting agents? Seems to be taking ages to obtain and I don't want to hand my notice in until the refs are sorted out - last day to hand it in is tomorrow unless I pay 2 x rent for 2 months
.
Many thanks in advance,
Stacie
