ok i currently have a g/force 7300 GT 256mb card and am looking for something more meaty to play age of conan.
i have spoke to my local seller and he said theres not much out at the mo for an agp slot as everything is now pci but i may find something on ebay or some other net place.
anyone?
for example would this be a worthy replacement?

There may be something in the ATI chipsets of graphics cards (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Products.ASP?CatID=15&FilterCategories=268&Thumbnails=yes) but I'm not sure it's a big enough jump in performance to make it worth it. If you've got an AGP slot I'm guessing it's not going to only be the graphics card that's left wanting. I've got an AGP card myself (lower spec than yours) and to be honest, personally, I'm not going to waste money upgrading it (even as an avid gamer), I'm saving my money to upgrade the motherboard (and everything else needed in relation to that upgrade)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Yeah, that card is one of the best AGP cards.
There are A LOT of Ati X19 series cards on ebay all the time. I'd probably go for one of them if I was sticking with AGP.
Different cards perform differently in certain games, but you can get a general idea by looking at this chart - I've put the 7900GS on there, along with a few from the X19 range, and the Nvidia 8800GT, probably the best bang-for-buck PCI-E card at the moment. The 8800GT can be had for pennies over £70 just now, but obviously it'd require a motherboard upgrade. Depending on the rest of your system you might need to upgrade to play Conan anyway, but obviously you're looking at £110+ if you decide to go the PCI-E route, for the video card and a motherboard. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
same boat as me, not woth spending the money on a new AGP card, mobo/ram/gfx is the way to go, looks like it can be achieved just wrong side of £300Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Same problem, I've got a few games that I can only really play on lowest settings (if at all) but you've got to decide at what point are you throwing money away on a legacy system. But the RAM may be a sensible option. I've got 2 GiB of RAM and it did do wonders for my system but that's about the last thing I upgraded (couple of years ago) and if I'm tempted to buy anything for it now I'm just going to put the money in my upgrade fund."She is quite the oddball. Unless it's an old P4 that uses RIMMS you should be able to get another 1GB for £17 tops. I'm assuming this stuff is compatible with your system.
That same 1GB would cost you a tenner if your pc could take DDR2 ram.
Like supercaper says though, it's spending money on old kit and paying over the odds for it too. Sure, it's only £7 but it's £7 that would put you on the path to current-gen gear.
I wouldn't shell out much to just play one game, but if you do much gaming at all it's probably more economical in the long run to make the move to PCI-E/DDR2/Dual (or more) core.
At the moment you can get a bloomin' nice video card, a new motherboard, a new dual core CPU, 2GB of ram and a new power supply to feed it all for a shade over £200.
That'll be able to play conan, and most other games out there just now, without batting an eyelid. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
if you do stick to agp , don't risk it on ebay.
still plenty of shops online selling good agp cards with full warrantys etc.
Overclockers have a good half dozen for starters. I know for a fact Aria always has a few in (though their stock changes pretty much weekly), so you should shop around"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -

did you contribute to my upgrade for £300 thread? all welcome to (thread echoed on another couple of boards, learning lots!) but i'm struggling @ £300 to get cpu/mobo/ram/gfx (8800GT) capable of playing games ok, no idea how to add psu for £100 lessUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Six months ago I built a friend a full pc including a 19" flatscreen monitor for £450 that could run Crysis on medium settings, and most other games on high.
If you are doing an upgrade on a budget, please don't skimp on the PSU. The 8x/9x/Radeon's are demanding on it and if they fail, they usually damage the rest of your equipment too so it's worth spending money on one from a reputable company.0 -
The best AGP in the market at a cracking price too, make sure you click on the special price
