Hello money savers! I am an avid reader of this site, but this is my first post, so go easy on me now! I have a wedding to attend in Stafford, there is 5 of us going and we want to leave at about 8 pm on Fri the 11th July and come back Sun the 13th July. The very cheapest I can find tickets for is £47.20 which seems really really expensive - it is only an hour 20 mins away! I have just seen about Chiltern railways e tickets which could let us go for just 5 quid as far as birmingham from Marylebone Stn....... any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. xxx

You are going to have to wait for VWC to release cheap fares for the Sunday - they haven't done so yet and are in no hurry to do so given that there may be engineering work which they don't trust Network Rail to plan properly.
And although it is 'only an hour 20 minutes away' it is a considerable distance - well over 200km - it's not 'really expensive'0 -
well dzug1, thank you for answer but easy on the sarcasm! £47 is 'really expensive' for me, otherwise I obviously would just pay it! Who is VWC? I suppose engineering works will make it a bit tedious..... Thank goodness, boris has not stopped drinking on the mainline trains!Bargain Queen!:j0

No sarcasm intended - just that it's a much longer journey than the time would suggest and that the fare is relatively inexpensive even if expensive to you in real terms. Sorry if I've offended you.
VWC is Virgin West Coast - the train operator.
Last time I looked you could get there for £13 on the Friday - with any luck something similar will eventually be there to come back - but no guarantee.0 -
no not offended! Must of misread post, sorry, have been away from UK for a yr so not used to high train prices, thank you for the advice, will watch and wait.:oBargain Queen!:j0
