Poor TV reception ? Had/Have cable TV installed.

Options
If youve had cable tv installed in your premises and cancelled your contract, theres a good chance your co-axial mains cable is still connected to the cable network.

NTL/TELEWEST do not employ staff to disconnect you.
they leave you connected in case you come back.

By connecting your TV directly to the main incoming feed,

(The cable that would have gone into the cable box)

then manually tuning your TV, you will pick up channels 1,2,3,4,5 [glow=red,2,300]PLUS[/glow] extra channels as well. ITV2, UKliving,
Basically the digital freeview channels without buying a freeview box.

The extra digital channels you receive varies from area to area but you always get 1-5 with crystal clear reception.

The lead you plug into your TV,,, needs a screw adaptor on the cable side and a normal UHF TV adaptor to fit your TV, a couple of quid to make !

Well hope this helps someone.

I have NTL cable package downstairs and run a TV extension up to the bedroom from incoming box outside giving me 8 perfect channels up stairs.

    Hi

We've got an old NTL connection just curled up in a corner and I would like to use it.

Can you explain exactly what I would need to buy to connect it to the TV. I am not at all technical. (We would also want to extend the cable)

    Thanks

I'm missing something here, aren't cable signals digital, hence why the digital set top box is needed to convert the digital signal. How would a normal analogue set know what to do with a digital signal? Do you have TV with in-built digital decoder/DVB that is becoming more common place now?
  • No your not missing anything here..!! ;)

All you have to do is connect the co-ax to your TV,
(with the correct fittings of course) and tune your tv in.

It will work,,,So long as your mains cable feed hasn't been disconnected.

Lolly I'll try to dig out a link that will show you what fittings you need.

    Tandy/Radio shack generally supply them.

bizarre, so some of the signals are just standard analogue, still connected so no need to try it at moment but will keep it in mind if we ever do cancel :)
  • You can still run an extension point upstairs that will give you extra channels with out the need for a decoding box of any sorts.

My channel 5 is terrible here.

Now it is a perfect picture upstairs, as well as 3 extra channels.. ;D ;D ;D ;)

    Hi...

    Thought everyone knew about this..!

Part of any Cable TV providers agreement with the government back in the days when cable was being planned was to allow for basic signals to still work if I remember correctly...

Believe you are looking for an   F to Coax connector.  F being female.   It just screws on to the dangling cable line you should have, and the other end is simply a traditional male ended aerial coax connector.  Hey presto...more channels..!   Do some random tuning every now and then as occasionally you get other channels too....disney etc...weekend promotions and the like...

*** ...a couple of example F to Coax connectors ***

Should cost somewhere in the region of 50p - £3.00 depending on where you shop.

If you have a cable company nearby with a walk in service, they sometimes supply these over the counter for free.  Better yet, request it when they disconnect you...

Firstly thanks to all the contirbutors here I now have crystal clear itv Wales & West BBC1 Wales & West Channel Four S4C and channel Five but no ITV 2 or any other freeview channels, is there any extremely techi type people out there who can confirm whether or not I should be able to tinkle about some more and get more channels please?
Nice post by the way fuzzy picture been bugging the life out of me and I won't pay for tv twice (not to mention all the money included in the cost of every product for advertising) so cable and sky were out of the question.

  • Ben,

I had to [glow=orange,2,300]manually[/glow] fine tune my TV to pick up the extra channels. A little time consuming but as you've already found out well worth it.

Depending on what type of TV you have, Auto tune doesn't always seem to pick up the extra channels.

    Dont know why ?
