Where to buy a cheap HIP?

Hi,
Planning to put my house on the market soon, and the agent we are planning to use requires us to buy our own Home Information Pack. This is then refunded on completion (minused from the 1.25%+vat charge). They will do it for us, but it costs £350, which is a bit excessive.
So I'm looking for a cost-effective HIP provider, to meet the basic legal requirements for 3-bed semi, nothing more.
Any comments appreciated.

Hi
My property has just gone on the market and i used http://www.southwalesdeas.co.uk/
for the HIP.
They charge £246 for a HIP (incl VAT) and it normally takes about 5 working days to complete. Once you have placed an order, you can track progress on https://www.hipfolio.co.uk by entering your postcode.
Hope this helps

I used these http://hipsandhcrs.co.uk/, they are cheap and there are no tie ins.
They send it you electronically and a hard copy.
A lot of the people round by me are tied in with their estate agents as they have their hip pack with them.

Thank you both; really helpful. When you say it takes 5 working days, within that time does someone come around to check what lightbulbs we have etc. as part of the energy report?0 -

Yep within 48 hrs of placing your order, you will get a call from a locally based energy assessor and you can arrange a suitable time for him/her to come over.0 -
what does the inspection by your energy assessor actually entail? to the people that have posted HIPS providers they have used, have you now sold your houses? were the HIPS fine? the HIPs just seems an unecessary hassle, i just want it done as cheaply as pos but ensuring everything i have to have in it is done0

I paid £300 + VAT (£351) from the EA but I own it.
Although it has been 4 weeks and I haven't seen it.0 -
Hi guys,
It seems that people charge whatever the hell they want when it comes to HIP fees. Considering it's a required Government package that is required by law, then surely there should be set fees when it comes to HIP. I have recently been speaking to a very well known estate agents and they wanted to charge me 400 + VAT for a HIP. I promptly told them where to jog on.
I have just typed 'buy a hip' into the search engine g**gle and, apart from giving me the opportunity to buy prosthetic body parts, I can see at the top, HIP for 158 + VAT. May be a dodgy site, but I checked it out and it appears legit.
My advise is, ring around and spend some time on the net having a look. It's expensive enough moving home without having to pay more than we should for a pathetic government certificate that shows naff all quite frankly! :mad:What does money do for you that doesn't end up hurting you?

Just bear in mind its a document for your buyers solicitor and most will simply bin most parts of a cheap HIP, !!!!ing your buyers off in the process.0
