Wireless question

I brought a wireless router and card home with me from America but I cant get it connected up.
The set up guide is telling me to put the Ethernet connection which usually goes from the broadband into the back of my laptop, into the back of the wireless router.
Small problem, I have a USB link going into my laptop. The wireless thing only has outlets for Ethernet connections.
What do I do? Can I get a new link or adapter, or do I need a new modem from BT?

you'll need an ethernet modem. Not sure if you can get a usb to ethernet adaptor but Ebuyer.co.uk will have one if they make them0

you can get usb -> ethernet but the general consensus is that it won't work as these are intended for linking pc's and require driver based management of the connection - fine for a pc but trickier (read: not going to happen) if the other device is a modem.
so it's either an ethernet modem or sell the router and buy one with usb ports?"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0 -

Do you think anyone would want it if I put it on ebay? Do most UK users have modems/routers with a USB, if so then maybe I would be wasting my time advertising it? This always happens to me, I try and save money and end up costing myself more.....0 -
I think the best bet would be asking BT for a different modem, they might replace it free (or a small charge).0

try BT for the modem swap - can't hurt - but a quick search on ebay brings back over 850 results for 'wireless router' granted not all of them will be accurate and likewise not all will be ethernet based but it's not exactly discouraging

Cable suppliers in the UK usually use ethernet connections from their modems, whereas ADSL (BT line) suppliers use USB - so if you were to sell it aim for cable customers - there should be plenty willing to take it off your hands0

Yep, definitely gonna ask BT to change the modem. I have been trying the online help thing but it keeps telling me its "temporarily unavailable" and there's no way Im calling them at 50p per minute!0

Lally, goto http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php and do a search for bt and it will list loads of free phone numbers you can phone!0

Called BT on 08702 404650 (not free but better than 50p per min) and they cant upgrade or sway my modem UNLESS i upgrade to their £24.99 a month package, then they will give me my choice of modem. Will be cheaper to just go buy one, and put the Wireless router on EBay.0
