Going slightly off-topic... (and sorry for resurrecting an old thread)
I've been having "discussions" lately with my blokey about the cleaning of our kitchen. We have granite worktops and a tiled floor and i just use very hot water (with a drop or two of washing up liquid if it's really mucky) and a microfibre cloth on the worktop and a microfibre mop and very diluted floor cleaner on the floor and i think this is sufficient. My bloke says it's dirty and how can a flannel and water clean and kill germs?

Companies that make antibacterial products have a vested interest in persuading people that if they don't use their product their health will be at risk. Some people think that antibacterials actually make us more likely to get ill as your body has less opportunity to build up resistance. I found this article really interesting.

In our home, we've done pretty much what you're doing for years and no adult or child has had as much as a stomach upset. Of course we're careful about how raw meat is handled, and about washing hands before handling food and so on.

I've had a granite worktop put in on 23rd Dec so this thread is VERY interesting reading. Glad it was bumped up! Will be using just hot water and a microfibre cloth and see how i get on.
