Do i Inform Bupa what my GP has said??

Hi All,

I am 27yrs old and I have in the last three months taken out a Bupa Critical illness and Life Insurance cover. I went for the most cover I could afford and took add on’s such as index linked, own occupation, fracture cover and reinstatement etc. I pay £49 a month for £100,000 cover at the moment, this is index linked at 3%.

Over the past six months my hairline has gradually been receding. I think and GP thinks this is genetecially linked as my father had the same problem at his age. The GP aired on the side of caution however and said she will send me for blood tests to see if anything medically is causing this and if not refer me to the hospital to see a dermatologist to see if anything can be done to slow this down.

My blood tests all came back clear so looks like my problem is genetic but have a hospital appointment anyhow.

Whilst I was having the blood tests my GP ticked a few other boxes on the form to test such as colectrol and thyriod etc.

All came back fine apart from my colestrol. My GP’s words where “Your colestrol is slightly high for a person your age, just watch your diet”. I asked how high and she said 5.

My problem and question is do I have to call Bupa and tell them about my hair and referal to hospital even though this is 99% going to turn into

Do I have to inform Bupa about my colestrol and the doctors words of advice??

Presumably if I do my premium will go up??

Thanks in advance.

You dont need to tell the insurance company as the application is a snapshot of your health at the time of application. However, diagnosis of conditions just after you take something out are often scrutinised and if its found you took the policy out when any symptoms had been showing at that time then the insurer can refuse to pay out a claim.

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

I did not experience any symptoms for the colestrol and this has only shown through the blood test and the other is more or less confirmed as genetic so I will leave this alone, don't want to open a can of worms with them.

Do I have to inform them about hosptial appointments?
