Adding funds to Paypal

Options
Hi,

I've got a slight problem and have searched Paypal and this site with not much luck.

I need to refund a payment from my Paypal account but I am about £20 too short.

I have added my credit card details thinking that I could add from there but when I go to Add Funds on my account it only gives me the option of funds from my bank account which takes 7 to 9 working days.

I am not verified - is this the reason?

Or can't you add funds from credit cards?

I had a look at FAQ and it says you can send a complete payment from your credit card but I only need to add £20.

Any ideas.

Thanks

If you transfer funds from a credit card to paypal it would be treated as a cash advance by your credit card company, so you probably wouldn't want to do that even if you could.

You do not need to transfer money into your paypal account first to fund a payment from your bank account. I don't know if you will be able to do a mixed transaction (i.e use the funds in your paypal account + a top up from your bank account), but you should be able to send a complete payment from your bank account in the same way you would do so by credit card. In theory it should be just as fast.

Edit: You will need to have previously completed the bank-funding part of verification to do the above, which involves paypal making two small direct debit payments to your bank account that you have to enter on their site.

Long term solution is to get verified, then Paypal will take any 'shortfall' from your bank account.

In the short-term, how about just "Send Money", funded from your debit card, to the email address of the person you want to refund? You might have to open a second Paypal account for this, but you could do this just for this one transaction, then cancel/forget about that second Paypal account.
  • If you just do a "Send Money" in your present account then Paypal will take the extra money needed from your credit card (that's what they do with mine!)
(However they haven't got my bank details... you may need to remove your bank details from your account, just leaving the credit card details, in order to expedite this!)

However, if your problem is that the person you want to send the money to only has a "personal" Paypal account (rather than "buisiness") and so can't access a Paypal payment originating from a credit card then I understand why you want to add funds to top up your paypal balance. (innovate's idea may be the only solution in that case)

Why not just send them a cheque or postal order if you have no money in your paypal account?

    - Careful slowen... all that lateral thinking will wear you out! ;)

    (nice one! :T )
  • Thanks for your replies.

I can't send a cheque or postal order because all but £20.00 is in my Paypal account and it takes a week to send the money to my bank account and the guy wants his refund asap.

I haven't got the money in my bank account for the full amount.

I have refunded him all that I have and will forward the rest on shortly.
