There is a user group on Yahoo called Freecycle. This helps link people up with others who want things so you can give away any useful items you now longer need. You can also try to blag free stuff by making a wanted post to ask other members for things you want.

I joined this last week and got rid of a load of junk that i was going to take to the tip. It saved me the hassle and helped someone else and environmentally friendly. I also picked up a Scalextric and remote control car for nothing to give to my Nephew--great site!!!0 -
exactly i have given up on this freecycle site, as its just a load of free loaders wanting, scrounging stuff.the whole point of the site was for people who were fed up of throwing away reusable stuff, and so might be able to pass it on, now its just i want iwant.not even 'i want a tv' its 'i want a 42'' plasma, as my old 21 blavk and white has just given up!' 'does any one have a car they no longer need!!'Artofdookie wrote: »And here lies its biggest problem, a great idea turned into somewhere to beg for cars and laptops etc. but hey you keep blagging one day you might hit lucky

Yes a good site for disposing of unwanted items, but there are a lot of wants these days.
My problem is I have a mahogany display unit and I can't even give it away on freecycle, no one seems to want it. Maybe we should advertise on here!!!0 -
I've given away two cars this year...
By the way, I was the "Freecycler" on Martin's telly show, so we've got a lot of experience on here! :rotfl:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
There was a posting already earlier today for freecycle - see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=924805
where it is already being discussed.
It's supposed to be a way of recycling, not a way to cadge free stuff and it's a shame if people misuse it as it is a great idea for reducing the amount of items that get taken to tips when they could be of use to someone else. We get alot of these cadgers in our local free paper also asking for outrageous stuff for free-spoils it for people who have a general one off need.0
