Hello folks
How does Freecycle work?
I've been on the site, then located my home city, then it took me to Yahoo.
I signed in, now it's asking me to join a group  and await confirmation
All I want to do is view what items people no longer require in my area, is that possible

Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional

I think, if I remember rightly you have to join the group to see. How strict they are seems to vary as I joined my local one quite easily, but registered on the IOW one for my Mum and got asked loads of questions, inc. what town I lived in, why I wanted to join........
It's worth it though, I've got rid of loads of bulky stuff on there, and picked up some nice freebies myself as well, like a TV and fridge.
I recommend joiningJanuary - Nintendo Wii, 2 x Lush bath bombs :j
Feb - Pink Floyd CD0 -
The group is your area, so dont worry about it.
Once you have joined, you will be able to see who is offering what.0 -
Yahoo groups is the method that is used for all the emails. It is a free and well-used route for establishing internet-based communities.
Once you join, then you have access to tens of thousands of different groups including local freecycle groups. You can then browse the messages, or have them emailed to your email address as individual eails when they are posted, or as a daily digest of all the day's emails in one.To infinity and beyond!0 -
Speaking as a Moderator of Freecycle, it does differ in each area as to the rules. But you do need to join. We don't bite.....honest!
Try to Offer as well as a Wanted now and then its only fair that we all give and take if it is possible.
Some like to ask for the near impossible "Wanted: a car" although some people offer the near impossible "Offered: a car" so there are some great free things that willing people wish for free/recycle
"One man's rubbish is another man's treasure"
Most people are fine, but remember that you are meeting strangers so just remember what we tell our children, remember Stranger Danger and set out in the Guidelines.
Have fun......I do reading the posts!** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Joined last week and got rid of a load of junk that was going to the tip. Saved me the hassle, helped others and good for the environment!!
Also picked up a Scalextric and remote controlled car for my nephew0 -
hi, hope no one minds me asking a question here but noticed cinders2001 was a moderator for freecycle.
i have attempted to join my local group 3 times in the last 6 months but never get any acknowledgement of any kind, either to say yes or no. have you got any advice for me as i would love to jointrying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -
I was looking into this yesterday and was thinking about joining. After reading all your comments I have just applied to join and I'm waiting for my membership to be accepted.
It's a great idea-you see people taking really good, reusable stuff to the tips and I have said before that the tips should allow people to see what others are throwing out to see if it is of use to someone else but this is even better as it makes people think that instead of throwing it away it may be of use to someone else.
Thanks to the OP for raising this.0 -
My local one there are more people asking for silly things or almost new things all time, they I doubt very much they will get0

Be careful how you get your notifications - I set mine to receive individual emails for each item. I didn't log into my email account for a couple of weeks and had 18,000 emails to delete :eek:0
