Dahab Egypt

Options
Going to Dahab in Egypt next month staying at the Dahab Hilton, anyone got any recommendations on where to go for days out? Not a diver! Also not too sure which currency to take, is it better to have egyptian pounds or easier to use cash point card?

Thanks for you help

  • You can use your Cirrus/Maestro card in ATMs to take money out, I use that all the time down there.

The other currency to take is US $. Remember you will need $25 to pay for your visa on arrival (just gone up this week from $15) unless your tour company is sorting that for you.

Take a supply of $1 for tips.
  • A correction, the visa has gone back to $15 on entry, it was supposed to be changing this SUnday but they have cancelled the increase.

From Dahab, you can easily visit St Catherines Monastery, the Coloured Canyon, Sharm el Sheik/Naama Bay. Organised trips are available to all these but you could do Sharm or St Catherines independently using the East Delta bus schedule. For further exploration, you could go to Eilat, Cairo and even Petra in Jordan. These, too, could all be done independently but unless you are an intrepid traveller, you are wiser to use organised trips. I am sure your tour rep will make you aware of what they can offer!
  • Also, although you're not a diver, the snorkelling round Dahab is amazing, and really cheap. Another idea to save your money is take cheap biros/ballpoint pens ( I save the free charity pens you get in junk mail) as presents for the kids, who will hassle you for bakshish all the time! And don't let the kids start making their braided bracelets on your arm, as they demand payment!
Also, there's an ace bar on the Corniche, looks like a boat hull that's been pulled ashore, does v.g. cocktails!
    Have fun,

:grin:If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you
