What do 1899/18185/18866 call to charge 07744 numbers.

Has anyone got any idea what 1899/18185/18866 charge to call 07744 numbers please from a landline. Are they charged at normal mobile rates.

The thought occurred to me that you can could get some cheap weekend intl call rates, if they only charged as if it was a normal mobile.Eg 18185 5p connection 2p a minute. Has anybody tried this.

Yes, last time i tried (a few months back) 07744 numbers were charged at mobile rates. I was calling international destinations for 3p/min on the weekends with 1899. No idea if it still works now, though I don't see why not.

However, there is a noticeable lag that gets very annoying, I think it's because the call is being routed through two providers. It may be dependent upon destination/time of day. You also have to rely on getting a good quality connection from both 1899 and Simply-Fone, and on top of that the call recipent's line may not be brilliant. And who knows what methods some of the providers are using, VOIP etc which causes more issues.

I also remember it did take several attempts to get a connection, which costed 3p (connection charge) every time.

I stopped using it and went back to one of the 5p/min providers, much better call quality which IMO was worth the extra 2p/min.

It still might be worth doing if you make large amounts of international calls and the lag doesn't bother you.

What about these calls to competitions on tv do they get reductions using any of these pre dial services?

  • No, you won't get any reduction of those numbers, that is how they can fund the competitions by people phoning in using premium rate numbers.

Competions are one of the legitimate uses of Premium numbers. No supplier offers cheaper call rates to them.
