Dont buy from the bigest oil companies ESSO AND BP

I received this as an email and was wondering what other people thought about it and weather anybody thought it was a good idea.
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are hitting £123.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £2.00 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain
day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to takeaggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place
not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see theprice of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not
purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase
ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of
Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send i
ttoat least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to atleast ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached
over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and
pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION
PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and
not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of ussends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt,
all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the
next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes
sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE
RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.boycott BP and Esso

Slight flaw in this if the amount of tax we pay on a litre really is 85%, the oil companies are really only getting 45 a litre, so how will they reduce the cost to 69p

SPAM (seeing this all over, again...)
Look up fuel duty, and VAT, then work out how much is left per litre once those UK gov taxes are removed, also look at the price of crude oil over the last 2 years, then ask yourself why you are expecting oil companies to pump, pipe, refine, deliver and then to sell petrol at a loss?
Numpty! Cut-and-paste shouldn't be allowed, engage brain before right clicking in future, please.

(sorry to rant a bit, I was tempted to cut-paste my own answers on other boards, and emails, but I really can't be a***ed, the figures are easy to find, should take about as long as it took to post the original message, and by looking for the data you will be learning 2 valuable lessons.
    1. Repeating what you read in chain-emails doesn't make you clever (it can have the opposite effect)
    2. Making it bold, and big, doesn't make the BS smell better.

I typed too slow, if i'd left in a lot of the original language I may have beaten your post, md, but I realised I was inline for a banning with the tirade of abuse I first typed, getting tired and a little stroppier than usual...

long day at work, came home, sold my car!!!!! :) nearly what I wanted for it as well, so that's all good!
I just remember this spam about a year ago arriving via dozens of e-mails and forums, I thought about it for a moment, researched for 2 minutes, and realised what a stupid idea it was, and told everyone at the time to lots of "oh, I didn't think of that" or similar, now it has resurfaced, on several forums that I frequent, and I just want to borrow the 'clue bat' from somebody and start educating, we all have access to the greatest research tool the world has ever known, yet people regurgitate junk and stupidity, too lazy to google "fuel tax UK", no wonder obesity is at an all time high, the brain burns a lot of calories when it's used, apparently that isn't often!.
To the OP, TOPRATTY20, please do not take this too personally, this is not the response you would normally get from myself, or others, but it seems everywhere I turn at the minute I see the same message, you are not alone in repeating it.
