DIY - Hanging from Ceiling

Perhaps a simple question....
I have a hanging toy net (ikea) which was fixed to the ceiling with a hook. The little one pulled herself up on it and pulled it down. I'm trying to think of an easy way to fix to the ceiling more securely!
Thanks

Depends what type of ceiling it is. If its plasterboard with joists underneath then you should screw into this, that will be far more secure. Easiest way to find joists is to look under the floorboards upstairs. Alternatively you could get some kind of cavity fixing, but its only going to be as strong as the material it goes through.0

thanks for your reply... i did wonder about a cavity fixing.... but if the plasterboard is not strong enough!!!
i can go in the loft to find the truss locations but i wanted to use the existing hole! i'll probably poke something up existing hole and then run some timber in between the trusses to fix into...

That'll work! And shouldn't be too hard. Incidentally plasterboard is pretty strong. I've stood on a bit that was between two joists 0.4-0.5m apart and it held my weight. Just how heavy is this toy net? You can get some good metal fixings from screwfix, but if the hole is already damaged the batten is the way forward.0

Before anybody else tries it I would never ever stand on the plasterboard between the joists........
Asking for trouble and a set of crushed nuts when your foot goes through !!!0 -
surprised that took your weight! have heard many a story of feet going through the ceiling when in the loft!
The toys arent heavy, but my daughter is likely to pull herself up on it and I don't want to risk damaging the plasterboard...

as above, I would suggest that something like that is screwed through teh ceiling straight into a joist.0

If the hook isnt where the joist goes you could lay a piece of wood over the joists and screw into that.0

If the hole location you want doesn't quite line up with a main joists in the ceiling you can always fit in a seperate cross-member (small length of wood) between the joists at 90 degrees to the joists over the hole. Screw or nail it to the joists either side directly for strength and then screw your fixture into the cross member.0

use a stud detector to find the joist (or possibly even if your keen eared knocking) and screw into that.Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....0
