catznine wrote:I have just made a batch of yogurt (thermos method) using some frozen starter and it worked! :j I just froze some of the last yogurt batch in tablespoon portions and defrosted some, crossed fingers and wahey! it worked. Thought this might help someone else, who like me, doesn't always want to make up a batch every week.
Oh, excellent news :T
I dug out my ice-cube tray t'other day meaning to freeze some of the yoghurt I made, especially as this one seems to be the best batch I've made so far! ... so you've just reminded to go and do that now while it's still good to use"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Badgergal wrote:Really stoopid question alert:
By "soupspoon" do you mean the kind of spoon you would use to eat soup?
I'll just slink off in embarrassment now...but one has to be sure!
Nope - not a stupid question - sorry I didn't make myself clear. I actually use a spoon for eating soup as my measure (as there are usually more of those in the drawer - most of the rest being in the dishwasher awaiting washing). However - the measure is *NOT* critical. I believe.
Try it and see!

Whitefiver wrote: »Hi,
Likewise, I use UHT full fat straight out of the box (not kept in a fridge), plus a good soupspoonful of the previous batch, and a scant half cupful of skimmed milk powder (to make it thicker). I like thicker yoghurt, if you want runnier stuff leave out the milk powder.
If anyone is desperate, I'll try to scan the basic instructions from my Easiyo kit, which might e-mail if I do it right. PM me if necessary.
Remember, you have to fill the outer container to the top of the red holder (not just the platform) with boiling water, you can increase this by up to 1 cm if it is very cold weather, and similarly reduce the level of boiling water by up to 1 cm for very hot weather.
I find it foolproof (even I can work it!) - which was my original criterion.

I LOVE the easiyo sachets! But could I use the easiyo yogurt as the 'starter-from-previous-batch', as Whitefiver recommends in their HM yogurt recipe? If so, I would be a very happy bunny! :T
Has anyone had any experience with this?
Thanks!
