BT Broadband woes

Does anyone know how to get around BT?? I have a 512 capable broadband. My neighbour has 1 mb capability. When I look up "sam knows" I am told that there is a problem with the line. BT refuse to acknowledge that. I know for a fact that the previous owners of the house had an ISDN box that had to be taken out to allow me to connect to broadband. Could this be related?
If BT say I cannot have more than 512 kbps, is there any way of getting around it to get higher speeds? I have checked with our exchange and there are no upgrades scheduled for the near future.
(Goes without saying that I have a bloodied nose fromtaking a tilt at the BT brick wall they term as "customer support")

The 'problem with your line' is probably that you already have a broadband service.
The samknows website doesn't perform ANY line checks AFAIK, it only uses a databse.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Get telewest broadband, seriously. I find that they are much better than BT and you can get upto 10mbps at the moment0

Is your neighbour with the same ISP?
Is the ISP BT?
'Problem' identified by sam knows IS because you already have ADSL.
What line speed does Sam knows indicate?
Is cable available?
You could ask for a MAC and try another ISP, many let you migrate for free and are cheaper than BT. You don't really have anything to lose as you can't get slower than 512Kb.Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.0
