Quote for Landscaping

I am having some work done on my garden but have no idea if it is a decent quote or not. My garden is 11 meters in length by 8 meters wide. The last 5 meters is on a slope of 45 degrees down.

The proposed work is to turn it into 3 layers. The top layer is 6 meters flat and to remain untouched, then a drop of 1.2 meters retained by railway sleepers. I then have 2.5 meters flat paved with Indian Sandstone with steps coming down. The bottom tier is a drop of 1 meter retained with railway sleepers and going to have steps down and chipped with Golden Quartzite and raised planters with some plants in them.

I have been quoted £5,000 inc VAT. Does this sound reasonable? I would really appreciate any help - if anyone has any experience with this type of work.

  • Is there no landscape gardeners on here?

I think the materials will cost about £1700 inc vat. Which leaves him with £3300 to pay his men and make some profit. Does this sound excessive? He estimated it would take one week.

Hi, not knowing where you are located but the price quoted seems reasonable enough, I think you would be looking at closer to £2500 for materials and there is a LOT of work there, do you know if he is adjusting all the levels by hand or is he getting in a mechanical digger? if he's using a mechanical digger that can add a bit on.

Sounds a good deal to me.

I've just had my garden landscaped (absolutely delighted with it btw! :D )

Much smaller than yours, but maybe a bit more building work. Basically the previous patio had to be completely lifted and excavated as it had been build too high and caused water ingress to the house, resulting in requirement to replace all floors and have walls replastered.

Patio laid, drainage constructed, bed raised, wall built with seating and paid £3800 in Central Scotland. took approx 6 days work -and the two guys worked hard.

My boyfriend's a landscape gardener and that looks like a very fair quote. It involves a lot of structural work, and natural sandstone, reclaimed sleepers etc are expensive materials.
Hope you like it - sounds like it will be lovely!

Hey, thanks for the response. I am also in central scotland - which company did you use?
