Where did my network go?

Could anybody advise me on why my network would suddenly go down.

My PC and laptop have been seeing each other fine for months but last night for no aparent reason it all stopped.

All the settings are still the same and I can still access the internet etc on my laptop wirelessley.

Any ideas?

Have you tried rebooting both computers?

Have you tried Start>Find>Computer then type in the other computers name to do a search for it?

Have you installed anything recently, or made any changes to either computer?

Yes have tried those.

the changes I have made recently are disc cleanup, defragment and alter startup under msconfig.

I have put the startup back again.

Do you know the IP addresses of the computer?

If you do......open a cmd prompt then type ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX and hit enter (exchange the Xs for the other computers IP address). Does this give a response?
