Durgo Valve...do I need a vent?

 Hi
I am having problems with conflicting advice about a durgo soil stack valve. One expert says I need to put a vent in the boxed casing around the valve...the other says ' no I don't need one'

Can anyone give me a definitive yes or no on this?

Will I regret not drilling vent holes in the box casing or is it just scaremongering on the part of another plumber?

Please put my mind at rest!

You're very kind...thank you!

Just taken advice from the pliumber that sub contracts to me. Ho advises that the valve needs to pull air in form somewhere and any boxing in will restrict that. We have been working on some at a new development in essex and wher they sit in the loft, they are definetely open so they can draw air in.

We have a durgo valve which is boxed in behind the WC. The hole for the toilet waste pipe is larger than it needs to be and this allows air in. 4 years on it still works a treat.

Had to have one of these valves fitted for new downstairs toilet, luckily Building Regs allowed us to fit it to the outside wall of the house. We had to box it in for protection and YES we had to drill holes into the casing so that air could be drawn in. The work was given the OK by BS and we got our completion certificate. So do yourself a favour and get drilling!!!
