  • No, no-one else has a key to our house.

Just got in and our Virgin TV is not working, wondered if they have stopped our service or if it's because of the premium call blockage or it's a general fault in the area.

My OH wants to go to SKY because we have had continuous problems with VM but I've heard they are not much cop either.

we have sky and we havent had any problems with them. we only have tv from them though. there is usually a cabin/caravan type thing set up in our town centre offering deals with sky for new customers. if you have never had sky they maybe worth checking out, especially if you have a hd tv coz you may get a good deal on a hd box. at very least there would be a good deal for sky+. so if they do something similar in your town...

there is one snag with sky. i think to get their broadband, phone etc you need to have a bt line. thats probably why we have never got anything else from them coz we only have a cable line. as part of your contract you are also required to have your sky box connected to active phoneline for at least 12 months. so even if you go to sky you would either have to keep your virgin phoneline or change to bt. if you wanted skys broadband you would have to change to bt like i think i have said already.

Yes, for the Broadband you need a BT line which is at least £10.50 a month.

In regards to the phone line being connected. They do state it but I've had mine dis-connected for a while now without problems.

i am not sure what the details are but i think you pay more for the box if you dont have it connected to a phoneline. after the 12 months it can be disconnected without a problem.
  • Hi there,

for those of you that kindly replied and advised I have an update.

After telling them on the phone or should I say rather arguing that we did not make the premium rate calls and writing a letter they sent out an engineer. The engineer checked (just looked at the telephone point) and he said that it's obvious you don't use this line and then checked somewhere externally and rang me back. He said that I wasn't to worry about it and that he would sort it out.

VM said they would charge us for the call out if the engineer couldn't find anything so I told the engineer and he said he would sort that out too.

This was Friday morning and we haven't heard anything since.

Just out of curiosity would it be possible for a dodgy VM engineer to make the premium rate calls from the green boxes outside?

    thanks
    Caz

possible, yes. Likely, no - imagine that you were into that kind of phone type entertainment - would you want to be ma king that kind of call out in public? Also would you risk losing your job for a couple of cheap thrills in the middle of an open street?
  • After still not hearing anymore from VM we decided to call them (again) and after hanging on 20 mins they agreed that we should not have to pay the call charges and it is being taken off of our bill.

Still not sure how it happened but now the premium rate nos. are now blocked, it shouldn't happen again.

I'm just glad it's over as I was worrying about it, OH on the other hand has asked for compensation.
