Soured Milk from Co-op

When I buy milk from co-ops in Bolton it seems to go off much quicker that stuff bought from anywhere else. In summer it only lasts a couple of days at most. I think it’s because although they store the milk in fridges on the shop floor, they don’t seem to have storage fridges round the back. The doors are always wide open and you can see that the milk is in cages just in the regular storage area. It would be interesting to see if anyone else has experienced this.

    OMG :o

I use a Co-op in Bolton too and complained about 2 months ago for EXACTLY the same thing!

I bought some chicken and when I got it home it was smelly. I took it back and got another pack but I don't trust it anymore. I phoned the freephone number to complain that I always see the meat stacked in the back (because the doors are always open like you say). They wrote back to say that they endeavour to get produce into the sales area as quickly as possible and that they had contacted the relevant store.

2 weeks ago I gave my 9 month old daughter milk on her weetabix and she was violently sick all day. I later realised that the milk had gone off. Again, it was from the Co-op in bolton and was within it's expiry date. I too have seen the milk in cages through the open doors.

I also saw some meat in the chiller cabinet last week that was 'green'! I told the store manager but I feel mow that another phone call and letter are in order.

People are probably thinking "why do you still go?" It's the only food shop in walking distance and I tend to go for essentials like bread and veg daily but I am very wary of the fresh produce now. I have started buying 1 pint cartons too.
Just run, run and keep on running!

i reported our co-op to local environmental health, and they are lots better. ;D
  • Had problems with my local co-op - with chicken & milk off within their sell by. I think it must be the way they are stored. I have complained to my Co-op recently & await their 'investigation' - complained 5 weeks ago. Absolute crap! >:(

I usually buy milk from Tescos and lasts ages - if the gannets in my house don't drink in a minute.

BUT did notice if bought from Co-op, it goes off much quicker.

I've had milk from local Co-op before and when i opened it, it had a really weird smell i ended up chuckin' the lot away. wouldn't ever buy it again. I get mine from morrisons now and thankfully no problems however doesn't last long in my house. when they start polishing off the choco hoops :o :-X

  • Sometimes the local shop is the only option you have, so drink up Poochy we may need to make a call to our local enviromental health.
