should I claim?advice please

My darling daughter has taken a sharp implement to the Plasma tv.
I gather that I can claim (repair bill is £550.00) but the tv is still watchable which makes me wonder if it is sensible to claim.
Does anyone have a rough idea what the premium increase is likely to be if I make the claim?
Secondly now that I have spoken to the insurance co. ( to check whether I am covered) does that mean technically that I have made a claim?
Thanks in advance.

Hi ... unless you have a policy which gave you a discount for past claims free periods, then there is no automatic change in premium because you make a claim - it will depend on the Insurer concerned, and perhaps if you have any more claims before renewal.
Just checking whether you have cover is not of itself notification of a claim, but sometimes the recipient of the call might just interpret as such. There is generally a condition that you notify your Insurer of a claim as soon as you become aware of it - so if you are in doubt - and decide NOT to claim - might just be worthwhile phoning again and confirming you are NOT claiming - a bit pedantic perhaps but avoids any confusion.
Should you claim? Ultimately only you can decide... but if the damage gets worse over time, it may be harder to have a claim processed say a year from now - not a deciding factor but worth bearing in mind.If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.
