Admiral Car insurance auto renewal???

Hi,
I had car insurance with Admiral taken out over the internet, this came up for renewal while i was not using the car, and they tried to take payment for another year from a credit card that i no longer have. They have now written to me requesting payment for the period that they insured me.
I have today phoned them up, and they are stating that i am liable, and one of their standard terms is 'auto renewal', which i signed up to via the internet site...
I can't remeber this in the small print, and as it was internet based i can't really check it. Is this legal, and can i fight the payment?
Regards,
AB.

The initial documentation you signed up to showed it and more importantly, your renewal notice quite clearly told you that it would be auto-renewed and what you needed to do next.
So, the company has acted correctly and your problem is you didnt read your renewal notice. That really limits your grounds to fight the charge.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
