Using an ATM under duress

IIRC something *similar* is/was true. Quite a few years ago there was a murder in Nuneaton.

A bloke murdered his wife who managed a local Building Society. It was supposed to appear as if she'd been kidnapped and forced to open the branch.
Gordon Wardell appeared in the media faking distress ........ but, IIRC one of the (many) flaws in his story is that the actual pin code for the door to the branch was used, rather than the right numbers in any order - as would be the case under duress.
I can't (quickly) find confirmation of this but remember clearly that was the story at the time.0 -

They get posted, then at some point someone says "check on Snopes to see if it's true"
Result? Snopes get milions of hits, driving up their advertising revenue.
Now that is a very good idea!0 -

Wouldn't it be better to enter the wrong pin 3 times so that the ATM just kept the card. I wonder whether the thief would just give up if that happened?0

You'll probably get stabbed or beaten up if you do that. Best thing to do is to look for a nearby drain/postbox/shop letterbox and throw your card through that. The man without a signature.0 -

So, they will stab you for forgetting your pin number, but not for deliberately throwing the card away?
The muggers you have in your area are different to the ones in mine!0
