Using an ATM under duress

I was sent the following but I don't know if it works - can anyone tell me if its true please?
"If you are ever forced by a thief or someone to take money out of an ATM machine, enter your pin number reversed. So if your number is 1254 mark 4521. The ATM machine will give you your money, but will automatically recognize this as a plea for help and will alert the police unknown to the thief.
This option is in all ATM machines, but not many people know this. Please pass this information on to others. "
thanks,
Valsie

Yep, it's utter rubbish! I wish I knew who starts these stupid stories so I could go and slap them!
There's another one going around about the phone number 112 being a direct line to "the police despatcher" (whatever that is!?) that you can use if you feel in danger. RUBBISH! 112 is the pan-european emergency number and works, across europe, in exactly the same way that 999 works in the UK.0 -

Personally I think it's actually Snopes who start these rubbish chain mails.
They get posted, then at some point someone says "check on Snopes to see if it's true"
Result? Snopes get milions of hits, driving up their advertising revenue.0 -
It's a Myth.
Here's is the link to The Card Watch Website which covers this topic.
Q.
Is it true that entering your PIN in reverse at a cash machine alerts the police?

It's not exactly rocket science is it?
Mine's 1111 and the police are turning up every week or so - now I understand why!0 -
My pin number orders a takeaway at the same time........just as believable as the OP's post." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
