Lowell Group...

Options
Well I have returned from Honeymoon (LATE last night, body clock a little screwy so was up before 6am... don't ask!) to find a delightful letter from Lowells claiming they have been trying to contact me regarding an address I lived at during December 2000 - February 2001... Now first of all I left a forwarding address at the time (had to to get my deposit back...) and didn't move again until beginning of 2004. So I have to admit to a slight morbid fascination as to what alledged debt they believe they can chase me for :D
Not to mention that I know all the post was fowarded for 6 months and I'm pretty sure I'd recall if someone had tried to chase me for money ;) Especially as I had a dispute over a fuel bill which in the end we reached agreement on and I paid. So... any outstanding bills would have most definitely been mentioned to me by the letting agents.

Now... Regardless - if I DO have an outstanding debt then it'll be statute barred by now - which means that they have bought a debt that can't be enforced anyway. But I am SO curious to find out WHAT debt they think I have hehe!
Should I call them? Whattaya think gang? ;)

Should I activate my free PAYG mobile and give the lovelies a tinkle on the phone? ;)

Oh and let's not forget... "they thank me for my co-operation in this matter".... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I think they be in for a shock!!! *snort*

    LOL thanks Fermi! :D
I AM torn between calling them and quite frankly having a laugh and just ignoring them... I guess if I ignore them long enough they might eventually !!!!!! off... then again knowing them... they won't :D
As I know the dates I lived at the address they "are wanting to discuss with me" then I know even IF there was an unsettled debt there then it would be statute barred - I suspect however that they are on a "fishing trip" as this was a rental property and more than likely the debt is relating to another previous tenant. Which presents me with the prospect of having a bit of a hoot with them ;)
Whadaya think? should I? should I? :rotfl:

    Honeymoon was fab!

I'd be tempted to have some fun, especially if I was sure that they would never get hold of a meaningful phone number for me.

Then again I would be wary of confirming that even a "fishing" trip has reached anyone who lived at the address in question. That might open the flood gates of idle threatograms from Lowells, Red Collections and their fake solicitors Hamptons Legal.

Not that they could do anything, but..........

They are not exactly renowned for listening to reason, or even being too bothered whether they have the right person.

You are right, it is SO difficult.....

If I was to present you with a bucket of manure, and hint there might be something at the bottom of it - would you put your hand in and rummage around?

Of course it's not an identical situation - a bucket can be usefull at times - Lowell not so...

Glad your honeymoon was good. It's all down hill from here... ;)

oh in a way it would be so amusing, but it might end up being like that sore tooth at the back of your mouth, that you can't resist poking with your tounge and then instantly regret as it suddenly engulfs your whole mouth with a fierce pain...

glad you enjoyed your honey moon, and at least you came back to nice weather...

LOL no the lovely Andrea changed it for me bless her! hehe

I couldn't help myself - I activated a PAYG mobile and called them... I have to admit it was great fun! AND I got to take out all the pent up fustration from the incapable staff at the airport in Sharm on them... *insert evil cackling*

Called, went through their little "yes this is really me..." routine and then got put through to a person who'd like my card details... *snort*
Weeeeeeeeell... can you imagine the conversation when *shock* they don't have any copies of the signed agreement? I know, I know... the SHOCK!
Well this is roughly how it went:

    DW (aka dimwit)
ME (me... who did ya think!)

DW: Can I have you card details to settle the outstanding amount of £300 something blah...
ME: Can you tell me what the alledged debt is in regard to first please?
DW: Uhmmm well it's an outstanding loan with LLoyds.
ME: REALLY? That's funny because I was banking with them till a few years ago and then settled all my accounts and moved to another banking institution following their inability to do their jobs correctly and in accordance with the guidelines set down by the financial ombudsman...
DW: Uhm... well you owe this money so how will you be paying for it.
ME: Actually I think I| just told you - I don't owe this money, I am disputing it and EVEN if I DID owe it then the debt according to you is from 2000/2001 and therefor statute barred, I trust you are aware of this?
DW: So you're saying that you don't feel you should pay what you owe because of this?
ME: *sigh* NO what I am SAYING is infact that I DON'T owe any money, if you think I do then you can send me a copy of my SIGNED credit agreement and proof that I owe anything. THEN I will decide on whether or not I owe anything at all and even then it's all irrelevant as it STA - TU - TE - BAR - RED! But DO you have a copy of my signed agreement?
DW: I'm sorry but we don't have that.
ME: So... what you're saying is infact that you can't prove I owe anything, you could be fraudulently trying to get money from me - which I am aware of your company having tried in the past several times...
DW: uhmm... (meek voice now) you should pay what you owe....
    ME: (now speaking very slowly - dont wanna confuse them after all...) P R O V E I O W E A N Y T H I N G!
Tell you what... If you contact me again for any reason other than to send me a SIGNED copy of my credit agreement for this alledged debt WHICH I am disputing, then I will report you to the financial ombudsman, I will also take your company, your supervisor and YOU to court for harrassment. If you phone me, write me or otherwise try to contact me, I WILL take legal action unless the communication is SOLELY to provide me with a copy of the mentioned document. Any questions...?
DW: uh... I'll update your details...
ME: fantastic... make sure you put on there "Is willing to take legal action for harrassment" ok?
DW: Sure.... (is by now sounding like he'd like to go and drink copious amounts of alcohol and forget that he works for Lowells...)
ME: Super - I'll send you a registered letter confirming what I have just told you, just in case you forget to put anything in the system or, shock, horror, the system doesn't save your notes... Bye now! (By now sounding so cheerful that I'm possitively SINGING to him...)
    DW:....bye....

I know they might become a bit of a pain in the butt but dear lordy me I'm havign a whale of a time playing with them! :D Fancy outright telling me they don't have and CAN'T get a copy of my signed credit agreement... silly people... mwarharharhar

Oh and just to put the record straight - yes I HAD a loan with Lloyds TSB, it was repaid in full (settled early) and my credit reports show this... They also have my contact details right up till my last address - so it's interesting that they are fixating on an address that I lived at 4 or 5 moves ago (not to mention more than 7 years ago...)
Oh I am gonna have me some fun with this one!!!!
