Aerial

Hi
Our digital TV aerial has fallen off the chimney and is hanging down (quite high). Question is; does anyone know who to call to fix this? Would it be an aerial company or would the job be too small for them? Sorry if it is a silly question, also, does anyone have an opinion on how much the rough cost would be? Looks like bolts on fixings have just come loose which has caused the gradual slip/ fall of the aerial, should just need a simple re-attachment.
Thanks so much

I own my own aerial company. My advise would be to check for your local aerial installer at www.cai.org.uk This is a good starting point as we are regulated. The aerial of yours may be old and now may be a good time to get it upgraded with a new one and also new fixings etc.Once this is all done it should last you at least 20 years out in all weathers. I would guess that a ball park to replace it all would be around £150 plus vat.It may be a false econmy to just replace bolts etc as they will then be new but all the other bits will still be old. Also whoever goes up on your high roof will require the correct equipment for safety as well as the skill to manage the job.
Hope this helps & good luck whichever way you decide.Onwards and Upwards

There are places which gives you free written estimates.
I had one done, and was quoted £280 for a completely new high gain aerial:eek:0 -

Look in the small ads in your local paper. I did this recently and got a new aerial (fitted) for £120.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I went to screwfix and bought the best aerial and loft fitting kit for under £35. This would not help you with your old one.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0

I rang a local company from the Yellow Pages (or rather https://www.yell.com). Experience of the national 0800 people is that they are a rip off. Quoted over £200 yet the local man was half the price and barely more than I could buy the bits for and rent a 3 section ladder. He was friendly, helpful and did a great job. If you're near Woking, Surrey, I can PM you his name/number (no connection, just a happy customer).
Don't be sold any "special digital aerial" nonsense either.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -

Yeah, amazing on how many people are fooled into 'digital' aerial. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
