Loft Conversion Vs S/S Extension

Hi
I was wondring if anyone could advise whether it would be cheaper to get a loft conversion or a side single storey extension....and the pro's and con's of each.
It is mainly to provide a study for my dh and me, which would allow us to free up the bedroom we are currently using as a study.

it might now work out cheaper to have a s/s extention. The building regs are now so stringent on loft converstions that it is now very expensive if done correctly. Also bear in mind you will have to replace all your upstairs doors with Fire resistant ones, and possibly have ceilings over boarded if you go for the loft route. But I'll let others who work in that field comment more as I no longer do them due to the regs involved.
