I wanna make some cinnamon and raisin bread
and I thought I had all the ingredients but I've just realised the cinnamon is in stick form* and might be a bit heavy going on the old gnashers if I chuck it in like that! Just wondered if it is possible to pulverise it somehow and if it would end up just like the powdered stuff? Got a mortar and pestle thingy and a liquidiser but no grinder. Does anyone know...has anyone ever done it?

Give it a bash and see how it goes
To be honest I don't know what part of the plant they use to make ground cinnamon so couldn't tell you. I use both types for different purposes and have never tried interchanging them.
Sorry not much help am I but I'll go and have a look on google and see if I can find anything
Edit: finally found one which tells us what we need to know, and yes, you can grind it down to powder to use

Depends if it's the bark type or the roll cinnamon(looks a bit like a thin cigar). The bark might be difficult to mash up in the pestle and mortar but you should be able to crumble the roll sort and then use the pestle and mortar to crunch it up a bit more. By the time it's softened in the loaf it should be all right.
I've got a little electric mill (that I use many for grinding linseed) that I would use however you may have one of those pepper or spice jars which have a grinder in the lid. If you do you could transfer the peppercorns to a saucer while you grind up the crumbled roll.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Just having a go with the pestle and mortar, (the smell is unbelievable!). Think it's the 'roll' type Ted. Never thought of using a peper mill, will try that next....brilliant idea ...thanks! :T♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0

i wanted to make cinnamon ice cream recently until i realised DD had used all my powdered cinnamon in cinnamon toast. So i grated a stick of cinnamon on the finest side of a grater and it smelt and tasted wonderful. It also gave the ice cream a nice speckledy look. It's a regular recipe nowIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
