No cheerfulcat you are most welcome to but in but couldn't this fund (video interview and all) and the large amounts of money probably flowing into it be described as a bit fad of the day? OK the fundamentals may well be sounder than many fads of the day which I guess is a reasonable answer. What problems will the fund manager have with much larger sums of money to play with?

If its a fad of the day then its a long day. Equity income funds are effectively a high yield portfolio of shares. High yield portfolios have been round longer than any of us.

Are yes but I see H&L in their latest magazine now emphasizing high yield in the present climate and highlighting this fund and its manager in particular.

That doesn't make it a fad. If anything, high yield investing is contrarian.

Just an ignorant question, is this a fashion investment or if not what is the characteristics that distinguish it from one?

It was EXTREMELY fashionable until it stopped performing so well. ;) Things have since moved on to natural resources mainly.

Now not so fashionable, but still popular due to manager's reputation being greater than all the others until in the sector.
