Points on licence question
Last year in April I was stopped by the police for speeding and given 3 points and a fine of £60. About 6 weeks ago I sent my licence back to the DVLA as I needed to update my address details. They've sent it back to me minus the points!
Does this mean that in December when I come to renew my car insurance that I don't have to declare them? I thought points stayed on your licence for 3 years
is that not the case anymore??

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -

they are not on the liscence but may still be on the system....work permit granted!0

Speeding offences stay on your licence for 4 years. Regardless of whether they are shown on your licence, you still have 3 penalty points on your record which must be declared for 4 years after the offence. You are liable to find that you have no insurance cover in the event of an accident if you fail to declare them.
As you must have declared them last December, then insurers probably have a record on their database. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

This was one thing I was worried about

Im assuming that if I changed insurers that the new insurers wouldnt know. But I dont want to void my insurance by not declaring them, not sure what to do really if anything.Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
I think when you renew your insurance the question is if you've had any points in the last 5 years, sorry!0

there a thing called the insurers database,it pick up on these things.
it picked up on me just testing out quotes with and without extra points,i didnt even tell anyone about them on the phone.
be careful.
if these are your first 3 points then dont worry about it,your premium will only go up by around £30. not worth the hassle....work permit granted!0 -

Off topic, but when testing quotes online I always enter hypothetical name and address details. i.e, Joe Bloggs as the name and a house number other than my own, but on my street. It's acurate enough play around with quotes from different companies, and my privacy remains protected.
I have a friend who had an old debt, which he thought was buried, until the debt collection agency found him at his new address. He couldn't think how they found him. Everything was in his partner's name, he hadn't applied for anything, no credit search had been made in his name at his new address - but he had been getting car insurance quotes! So, whichever car insurance company it was obviously had links with this debt collection agency. "Gone Away Information Network" I think it's called. Seems some motor insurance companies are part of it.0
