Help - Sicky-smelling carpet etc....

Due to a sicky "accident" (projectile vomit, missing bowl etc - you really don't want the details I assure you!) I have a very unpleasant smelling house, and really need some advice from you lot....
O/H was great and scrubbed the carpet & sofa with 'stardrops' household cleaning solution, and there are no marks, but it really still smells sicky. I tried Febreeze and Haze carpet powder (all I had in the house) and have a plug-in air-freshener, but can't seem to get rid of the smell. Had all the windows open at night, but we had to close them to go to work, and when i popped home lunchtime it was terrible!
What can I do??????

It's not old style, but Neutrodol powder is fantastic for getting smells out of carpets.Here I go again on my own....0

Sprinkle the carpet with baking soda, then leave to dry. Vacuum the powder up then sponge the area with white vinegar.0

Yoga Girl you took the answer from my mouth. I was just going to say. Put vinegar on it, then sprinkle baking powder. Except my method is backwards. Arg..
I would hate to have to smell that, oh my god, i'm not good with smells.0
