Does comdirect have an inactivity fee? I am going to transfer my gambling fund out of selftrade to someone who doesn't charge for doing nothing.

Just to confirm that they do not have an inacitivity Fee and that they are very efficient.
I can also supply you with a link if you like . To qualify for the free £50 you have to buy shares worth £500 or transfer some share certificates also worth £500 or more into their nominee account, which you can sell when you like !

The following is a cheap sharedealing service which is now part of Halifax Group.

    http://www.iwebsharedealing.co.uk/

Charges are just £10 per deal for UK stocks. No administration charges, no quarterly holding charges, in fact, no other charges at all!

    Hope this helps.

After spending a few weeks looking around I've gone for Halifax's sharebuilder account.

Realtime buys are £11.95 but you can deposit funds and take advantage of scheduled trades which only cost £1.50.

Share selling is realtime and costs £11.95 but if the sale value of the deal is under £250 it only costs £5 (this is real-time, not scheduled).

This seems like a good deal for small investors especially as there are no annual management fees and the only other charges are the standard stamp duty (0.5% of share purchases) and £1 PTM levy if you buy/sell £10,000 worth of shares.

The down side is it's not an ISA and they expect you to deposit £20 per month (although you don't have to invest it until you're ready to). You can also make one-off deposits to be investmented either on scheduled dates or real-time.

There are some restrictions on what you can invest in (unit trusts, oeic's and gilts). More details here: http://www.halifax.co.uk/sharedealing/formsandtools_eligible.shtml

I figured the reduced costs involved would make it a good starting point so decided to give it a go. I applied last sunday and my account is now active. I also had a call on wednesday from their customer service team to check my security codes had arrived and asking if I had any questions about the account.

Now I just need Warren Buffets phone number and I'm all set :D
