Make Money From Sky When Moving House

We all know about the refer a friend option with Sky where you get a £50 M&S voucher each. This tip uses this and more!

Basically if you are moving house cancel your Sky subscription near to the moving out date. Prior to that though refer a family member as your friend at your new home address for sky installation. Set an installation date for AFTER your moving in date!

With this new installation you will get a choice of a free Sky box or for £50-£99 a Sky+ box. As you still have a Sky box from your previous address SELL the brand new one (or the old sky box if you have chosen the Sky+ option). I recently sold a brand new Sky box for £56 on eBay!

So you get your money from selling your Sky box on eBay and you and your family member will also get a £50 M&S voucher as well but this does take up to 2 months for you to receive the vouchers. If you purchase the 3-in-1 Sky package i.e. tv, broadband and phone you will probably save even more money each month than if you paid for each seperately.

Be warned though if you have chosen to include the Sky phone option. BT require that to have their 'free' services, for example BT Call Minder, Caller Display etc. you need to make 3 chargable calls per quarter. As Sky take over your BT billing i.e. free calls (all BT get is your monthly subscription) you will not make the necessary calls to keep these features free. Therefore you need to cancel these services if you go for this option or BT will change you an under usage fee.

:hello: I also have my phone calls through Sky and BT for line rental. I use the friends and family option for some calls through BT as the price is I think slightly cheaper than Sky and will also keep BT from charging you Call Minder etc. Of course all Sky's evening and weekend calls are FREE. BT's I'm not so sure about sometimes they give you this for a period of time then start charging especially if your Option 1 as I am.

Aren't you going to have to rope the family member in any time you want to change your sky package?

How do you use the F&F option with BT? Surely if Sky are your provider then any call you make will be through Sky?

No as long as you have the password that you set up the account with and details like post code etc. it doesnt matter.

I would phone up and dispute this. I have always received my vouchers just a month or two late though due to "high demand".

As their line rental remains with BT they are still a BT customer too (very very wise choice). This means they can choose to use BT for some calls and bypass the CPS provider (Sky Talk in this case) by prefixing the call with the BT over-ride number 1280. CPS is Carrier Pre-Select this is where the exchange automatically routes calls via the chosen CPS provider (you can only have one CPS) you can however bypass the CPS provider by using an over-ride code.

As Sky charge high rates for calls to 0845 and 0870 if you can't find an alternative on SayNoTo0870.com then these should be passed over to BT as they are cheaper.

You can also use cheap call providers such as Call 18185. Once signed up, you just prefix the call with 18185 and get cheaper calls to mobiles, landlines and international. Depends on what option you have with Sky as to when you pass calls through 18185 and when you pass them through Sky Talk or if you pass them through BT.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
