Network sharing help please.

Whilst my desktop (DT) was at the repairers, we bought a laptop (LT). We set the laptop up on wireless with the belkin modem/router and got the usb adaptor thing for the DT. I have managed to connect the DT up today, plugged the usb thing in etc, and it is running from the wireless connection with no probs, but I need a few answers!
1/ when I sign into msn chat on one pc, it logs me out on the other, is there a way of being able to be logged in on both?
2/ my email addresses are set up on both pc's, I can send from both without any probs, but how do I know which pc I am going to receive on? (don't realy want to be switching between the 2 all the time to see if I have had replies etc or new mails)
3/ do both pcs have to be switched on all the time to keep the connection going?
4/ my printer is connected the the DT, how do I do it so I can print from the LP too?
and finally, does anyone have the Active wireless mouse/keyboard (was the 69.99 one in argos)? because the pc has been disconnected, it needs the mouse/KB reinstalling, I have run the disc and it's fine, but I can't find the instructions so I can't remember how I get it to work, I know you have to click connect and then either the kb/mouse then the other, but I can't remember the sequence, can anyone help me as I currently have what looks like the original kb from the 50's connected!!!
Thanks for your help.

  • 1) With the same account, no
    2) You should get the emails on both machines
    3) No, as they are both wireless only the router needs to be switched on
    4) On the desktop goto the printer you want to share (from control panel) right click, properties, sharing, tick share this printer and give it a share name. On the laptop goto Start - Control Panel - Printers - Add a printer - Network Printer put the address in as \\desktopnamehere\pritnersharenamehere and bobs your uncle you can print from the laptop to the printer upstairs
  • thanks for the quick reply, thats fine with the msn, I take it though that hubby will be sign into the other when he wants to use it too? regarding the emails, some are coming to the LP, and some to the DT? any ideas? will sort the printer out shortly. thanks again.
  • What email provider/program are you using?
  • I'm on tiscali broadband.
  • What are you using to pick up your tiscali email, outlook?
  • no, I use incredimail.
  • A quick search revealed that this is web based, you should receive the emails on both machines - if you don't refresh the page then it should be there
  • thanks for your help. julie
