Bath-side mounted bath taps

I have a very OLD cast iron bath. The taps (which might even be the originals) are mounted in the usual place at one end of the bath, but they are mounted into the vertical surface of the bath instead of onto the top surface of the bath. The fixing is therefore against a vertical surface instead of the more usual horizontal surface (I'd try a bt of ASCII-art but I don't think this bulletin board software allows you to post in fixed-width text)

They are looking a bit shabby and the cold tap is now impossible to turn completely off.

Does anyone know where I can get replacement taps of this kind? I can't seem to find anything like them.

I think the rigt term is 'wall mounted tap'. Just a few results of a quick search:

Use Courier New or Fixedsys fonts.

They are called globe taps. They are still available but to order and about £100 a pair ( pm me if you want to know where) Im 99% sure they will be 3/4 inch.

I wouldnt replace the entire tap as they may be very difficult to get off. Why not just repair them or try obtain just the headworks ( thats the bit that you unscrew out when rewashering them)

Personally I would strip the taps down, fit new washers and grease them ( vaseline) and possibly re seat them ( the bit where the washer sits on can get uneven) , you will need a tap reseating tool to do this .
Cleanings not my department but I bet someone inthe MSE old fashioned board would reccomend a way to have them looking like new ( probably vineger or something, I dont know)

If you do decide to change them beware that the pipe behind the tap may bend and break so watch out for this.

    Hope thsi helps

ps 5 pairs of globe taps on ebay right now
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
