Not on Electoral Role - Affect Credit Rating?

Hi

Would not being on the electoral role affect your ability to not be able to get credit? I cant even be found to have a credit report lol.

Cheers

Yeah. Get yourself on it. Try establishing some credit history by getting a cheap mobile contract or store card/Capital One Classic etc.

Then your payment history should be recorded on your credit report. Have you obtained your credit report from all CRAs?

    - Call Credit
    - Equifax
    - Experian

    Reports are £2 each

Right Ive just made an accout with experian and it says successful.

But when I try to login it says that Ive entered invlaid username/password, so when I click forgotten password and enter my email address it says details cannot be found.

    Whats going on?

P.S. I havent forgotten my username or password as I only made it like 2 minutes ago

A lot of lenders are using your registration on the electoral register as part of their scoring processes and being on one contributes to your credit status so I would say get on one as soon as. I got a mobile phone contract over 3 yrs ago when I wasn't on the register but found it difficult to get credit later on and therefore got my own place and went on the register when I was 19 but I found out that it is a legal requirement to be on one apparently! So I got on there pronto!! Have been ever since but it's never something you think of!

It helps, as does having a BT phone line but a decision is not made on those alone. However, if you are borderline, they could make the difference between an accept or a decline.

definitely get yourself on it. Lenders use it as part of their decision making.

When I split with my ex, for some reason I was missing off the electoral roll for 1 year and the mortgage company made me prove I was at the address, even though I'd been there for the previous 10 years and on the roll!

It's actually more important than even that. If everthing is fantastic on your credit report, simply not being on the electoral roll can be the all important factor in declining you simple bank accounts etc. Seen it first hand with my mum trying to move banks for her business account. I.e. she's now stuck and can't open another account. She's even been declined store cards because of not being on the electoral roll. If there's no reason you can't be put on it then get on it ASAP. Just imagine how bad it is for people that can't be put on the electoral roll.
